Baseball Photos–5/27

I highjacked the coach’s wife’s Canon 60D camera to take these photos. Her camera was so nice I really didn’t want to give it back. She loves the way I take photos so she was more than happy to let me take the camera and snap away.

Here are my favorite photos from the baseball game on 5/27

Joey had an amazing play this game. He caught the ball in outfield, ran up to this kid rounding third and tagged him out, THEN he ran past that kid to the kid in front of him going home and TAGGED HIM OUT TOO! I got it on film. AMAZING!! They talked about this play the rest of the season.

IMG_0846Tagged out – #2 in the same play. Joey is so fast. He does not get that from his mother.

IMG_0923I love this one of Joey. I love the lighting. I love the focus. I love the way it was taken. It is one of my favorite photos.

We want to know…

I was blog surfing and found this blog above and they do a Wednesday Q&A so I decided to answer the questions below.

{1} What is the best or worst pick up line you have ever been given?

I have no idea. I haven’t been in the dating world in a long time, but I know I’ve heard some really bad ones growing up. Really the best way to pick me up was to talk to me, be my friend, get to know me.

{2} What is your most and least favorite day of the week?

Least favorite, I think, is Monday. Favorite day is probably Saturday. Just the ability to relax is so nice.

{3} How many hours of sleep do you require each night?

At least 8. One a good day when I can fit in a nap at least 10 total hours.

{4} Is there a song that takes you back in time? What song is it & what's the memory attached?

I’m huge on music. I can hear most music and it triggers a memory. Most of the music that has strong memory attachments are from the 80s and 90s.

{5} What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

Eating *sigh*, playing café world on facebook, restaurant or bakery story on my phone, or blogging.

Me and my secret side

2011-05-27_07-31-26_748Me on 5/27

I’m just like everyone else. I’m busy. I’m a frazzled mom who looks put together on the outside but feels really frazzled on the inside.

I wonder every day why I still break out like I’m 13 years old in my thirties. It’s so not fair. I try to tell myself it makes me look 10 years younger, but when my face looks like it does, it really doesn’t offer me much comfort!

My house is a wreck. Thank goodness for our maid who comes every other Thursday. At least that day I feel like my house is back to normal. It takes only a day for it to become a total wreck again.

I wish I could be skinnier but I like to eat food. *smile*

I’m obsessed with my phone.

I have a billion things I need to do. My email box has over a thousand emails. I’m a month behind on my blog. I have to print about 6 months of recipes that we said ‘yes, make again’ and make them into recipe cards so we don’t lose the recipe. I need to back up my photos to dvd. I would like to make a blog book of 2007. I’ve done 2005 and 2006. I’m only a few years behind. *sigh*

I love blogging. It really relaxes me. The house could fall apart around me and at least I feel like I’m documenting part of our life that I won’t forget later.

This past month has been hard financially. The beginning of the year we decided to replace our washer and dryer. Two weeks ago our upstairs A/C went out. It was either replace the compressor for 1500 and leave the existing parts that are ten years old, or pay an extra 1200 and get an entire new unit and five year warranty. We got the new unit, which made the most sense. To top it off, Joe’s check engine light came on in his 04 Honda Civic so we took it in and it needed a timing belt replaced, the 125,000 mile maintenance and then fuel pump sensor had a crack. That cost $1500. Things happen in threes. I hope that was our three for the YEAR!

To add to that, last year when we went to Michigan for vacation our neighbor told us we had a fly infestation in our house and she killed a ton of flies.

All of a sudden this week we have another huge house fly infestation. We have literally killed over a hundred flies. I finally called our pest control company and they are coming out tomorrow. It is ridiculous. I have no idea where they are coming from and I hate house flies. I hate eating and having them flying around.

Joey is doing swim lessons this week. I think it is taking a lot out of him because he broke down at practice today that it was too hard, and then came home and took a three hour nap. Then he had soccer practice this evening. He’s just been so busy. I guess tonight he played goalie and only one kid could get the ball past Joey. They were all saying that Joey was so good at goalie that no one could kick it past him. It was so cute.

This was a conversation between Justin and I yesterday.

Justin - mom I want a microphone so I can sing

Mom - What are you going to sing?

Justin - You never know! It's going to be a new one :) and I'm going to wear my sunglasses upside down

Children and Tornado Warnings

First of all these are photos from Justin’s school on 5/25.

Later that night we had tornado warnings. After seeing the most recent devastation in Missouri and the neighboring states, we weren’t taking changes so we all went to the closet with our bike helmets on. You can see Joey looks absolutely terrified. He freaks out when he hears the sirens.

My radio in my Ford Edge

I’m totally amused by my new radio and the way it looks. Check it out. Pics from 5/24

When I first got my braces I was really embarrassed to smile with them. I would close my lips over them and smile. I finally got to the point where I didn’t care what other people thought. I am investing money in myself to get my teeth straightened. If someone doesn’t like that, then I really don’t care.

Most of the attitudes I get are very positive. Kids are very curious what are on my teeth. Tweens can commiserate with me. Most adults who didn’t get braces are curious and want them themselves and those adults who did have braces like to tell me horror stories. If anything, they make me look younger.

So now I always smile with my teeth. I always smiled that way before and I’m not going to hide my nice smile because of the braces on my teeth.

Walk It Challenge 5/22

Weight Watchers had it’s annual Walk it Challenge on 5/22. It was at Towne Lake Park and we had to walk it three times around the lake for a total of about 3.2 miles (5k).

The entire family went for the walk. After about half way around Justin was dragging and Joey and I decided to go ahead. I asked him if he wanted to run it with me so off he and I took jogging. We would go about 1/4 mile and then walk some. Then start to jog again.

I think, by the end of the walk, we jogged half of it. Joey was such a great sport. Justin made it around once with dad (1 mile).

On the third lap I gave Joey the option of staying back with Justin and daddy on the playground and I was going to do the last lap myself. Joey said no way – he was finishing it with me. So we jogged most of the last lap as well.

Joey finished the entire 5k walk/run with me and we were sooo proud of him! He was so darn proud of himself! I told him that he helped run over three miles! He liked it and I told him maybe another morning him and I can go walk run it again. It’s a very peaceful walk around the lake. We had a great time.

By the way, Joe loved driving the Edge to the walk the next morning. He loves driving the new Edge!

2011-05-22_08-59-32_94Justin, Joey and I after our 5k walk! I was tired!

2011-05-22_09-50-54_547Joey requested waffles for breakfast so I pulled out the waffle maker that we haven’t used in about 5 years and made these perfect blueberry waffles!

New Edge – 5/21

I think 2011 is officially termed makeover Briana year.

This year I decided to get braces and officially got them put on in February.

And on 5/21 I got rid of years of driving a mini van and finally got a crossover. THANK GOD!

I’m sorry, but driving a minivan is just not hot. I know it’s functional, but it’s not cool. You can’t jam to your cool music full blast in a mini van and think you are cool driving down the road. Maybe I’m acting like I’m twelve again, and frankly I don’t care. I like the room of a minivan, but that’s where it ends. I’m a not a mini van driving soccer mom.

We decided to sell the Town and Country. We weren’t sure of it’s condition to drive back to Michigan this summer without having some repairs. We didn’t want to sink money into it before we left and it was getting up there in miles.

We went to look at a few different options. We looked at Jeep Liberty and then decided to look at Fords. Now 10 years ago you couldn’t have paid us to look at Ford. The quality just wasn’t there. You know FORD – Found on Road Dead…etc

Recently they have immensely improved their quality, and won a lot of awards for best of class and we thought we would give them a try.

Joe showed me their Ford Sync system and I found the Ford myfordtouch system. I think those two things sold me right then.

We test drove the Escape but it didn’t even have the myfordtouch system in any model.  The expedition was too big and the explorer was too much for fully loaded.

We test drove the Escape, and frankly I thought it drove and felt cheap. I wasn’t impressed. It had a lot of road noise. For $26,000+ you would think it would be made a little nicer.

So we took a look at the Ford Edge.

We test drove the Edge and I knew it was it. I wasn’t in the market for the crossover but it grew on me fast and I love the way the Edge handled. The Edge also had the myfordtouch system and sync.

Here is an article about the Sync and MyfordTouch System.

The My Touch consists of two 4.2-inch LCD screens that flank an analog speedometer along with an 8-inch touchscreen that sits at the top of the center stack. To control the system, there are two five-way switches on either side of the steering wheel.
The left display is controlled by the left controller, toggling info on fuel economy, mechanical status and safety features, while the right display is controlled by the right, taking charge of audio settings, climate control, phone communications and navigation menus. All of the right-hand functions also appear in the 8-center stack's 8-inch touchscreen, in reach of any curious passenger. In the 2011  the center stack applications will have a touch controls for audio and fans--doing away with knobs completely.

We bought our car from Bob Tomes Ford in McKinney, Texas and it was the the most pleasant car buying transaction we’ve ever experienced! Both the selling of the van and the buying of the edge below.

I tell it to call mom, and it will bluetooth to my phone and call my mom and I can talk to a wireless speaker in the car back to her. I LOVE THAT!!

Me 5/20

Every now and then I take self portraits with my cell phone. I like the fact that I have photos of me – otherwise no one really says, “Hey Briana, let me take your photo”. So I take my own photos to be included in scrapbooks or in my blog.

Here you can see my new pink bands on my teeth. I also got pull chains to move my canine’s back into the space where my other teeth were pulled. My teeth already look straighter. It’s amazing.

Justin and Emma

Justin always says Emma is his girlfriend though I think a lot of boys in his class think the same of Emma. She likes boy stuff so they all think she’s cool.

She loves asking me to take photos of them and they always do a few goofy photos. This is Justin and Emma at school on 5/17

You know you have boys when...

This was overheard in the household...

Justin: Mom, there are bones in my weenie. I can feel them. Yep, bones in my weenie.

Yep, and that is how you can tell you have boys in your household. I don't even want to broach on the subject with him that there are NOT bones in your weenie. (wide eye look here from mom!!)

Thank you

Stamped Thank You_lo

I made Justin lunch today. He ate all of his spaghettios. I asked him if he wanted some more.

Justin: ‘No thank you mommy, but that was very nice of you to ask.’

Since when does my four year old say ‘it was nice of you to ask.’ I guess he has picked it up from Joe and I. Too cute!!
