We finally found a daycare...

Well what a wild few days it's been.

Last Friday I pulled Joey from his daycare as you may have read. I had to wait until today to tour the other school.

The school is called Creme de la Creme. To say the school is awesome is an understatement. It's totally awesome. The kids go to a new room every 30 minutes. One class is art, then next is then math/science, spanish, computers, music, pre-write/phonics, gross motor in an actual gym and so on. They have a spray park in the summer time and the playground for the kids is nicely setup. The kids can ride trikes or scooters or play on the equipment.

The problem with the other daycares is the kids stay in one room all day and only leave to eat and play outside. Here the kids rotate rooms. They don't get bored because they get 30 minutes in a room and then they rotate. This is how it is in real life once they get into school too - they rotate to gym class, art class, etc. Justin, at the other school, stayed in one room all day and was totally bored. This type of environment Joe and I really liked. This was the number one selling point of the school for us.

The only bad part - it's OMG expensive. Yeah, like a TON more than my house payment. We actually are putting Justin in full time and Joey only in part time M, W, F all day.

I asked Joe to come home early today. I went at 11am and was amazed. I went with the kids and saw they really liked it. We obviously didn't like the price tag but at the same time saw how much the kids really liked this daycare. I asked Joe to come home early so he could see the school too.

Joe went back with us and saw the same thing. Justin loves it there. Everywhere else we go he doesn't want anything to do with the place. Here he got down, was walking around, leading us places, he was ready to start! He didn't want to leave either. It's so different than the reaction's I've gotten before where they didn't want to go every morning.

I'm so happy they are going to love it there. It makes it much easier to leave your children during the day. On the other hand, we are really going to have to watch what we spend for a little while to allow the kids to go here. So we'll see how everything goes.

On top of all other things - I didn't see it happen but my cat Ty Ty (the orange one) was sniffing some yellow liquid in the corner of the window sill today. Yep it was cat urine. Now I've noticed TyTy has been 'off' since we've moved here. He's lost weight, his breath was stinky and it didn't look like he was grooming himself much anymore. Once I saw the pee, I knew it was him. I called the vet and they got me in that evening. They called over the records from the vet in Michigan. TyTy has lost 1.1 lbs in less than 2 months! That's a lot for a cat who went from like 10 lbs to 9! He's a big tabby too!

They did some blood tests and a urinalysis. His urine had blood in it and looked cloudy. They said it did have a lot of white blood cells so there is definitely an infection going on. They'll know more tomorrow once the lab results come back but they gave me some antibiotic for him to pill him every day. Let me tell you, he had ONE pill and he already looks a lot better. That poor kitty! And that is why you take your cat to the vet immediately if they pee in a weird spot - it's because they may have kidney or bladder problems - especially if they are boy cats.

Joey broke new ground with me yesterday. Joe went to dinner with his boss after work so I took the boys out to get Pizza for dinner. We got there and we are sitting in the car and Joey looks over at this Indian man and says, 'Mommy, he has a BIG nose'. I am so glad we were in the car and not where this man could hear me. I gave Joey the talk about how everyone is different and how saying that can hurt people's feelings but I'm not sure it sank in at all.

The other thing is Joey does not listen. We tell him something and he doesn't do it, or we tell him not to do something and of course he does it more. It drives us crazy. We've been doing time outs. Tonight he wanted to read a book. SO he starts to goof off. Joe told him to knock it off. He goofs off again. Joe warned him and he did it again so he went to bed without a book tonight and screamed for a 1/2 hour until he finally calmed down.

He interrupts me constantly. I don't know if this is a 4 year old stage or not. Oh and he thinks burping is the funniest thing in the world. He does it so much Justin even tries to do it - DOH!

My new scrapbook room!

Well I finally did it. I finally figured out what kind of storage system I wanted for my scrapbook room. You can get these cubes at Target and they run about $25 a piece. Joann's has ones that are similar but more expensive and probably a bit deeper in size. They are also way more complicated to put together. The Target ones are easy enough that I put together a lot of them. I like easy and cheaper!

Here's my new Ikea desk and chair. I've seen this desk over and over and just HAD to get it for my scrapbook room. It's a glass table that says Love in about a million different languages. I just loved it and the legs are shelves. How cool is that? The frames on the wall are also Ikea.

So far I have every one of those drawers filled. My pattern paper is all in the big cube on the far right which is a pull out drawer. I'm not sure I like it. I may buy more of the paper shelves like I have here for cardstock so I can see what I have instead of having it stuffed in a drawer. OR I may go out and buy the wire mesh shelves that a lot of people use for paper and put it off to the side of the room and use it for pattern paper instead. I'm not sure. It would be a lot cheaper to do the mesh. Then maybe I can save and buy a few more 3 drawer cubes for my paper embellishments.

Anyhow I just love it. I love the colors, I love the way it's setup but I wouldn't put it past me to move everything around in a few months!

Busy weekend! The kids love the sandbox!

This weekend involved spending more money - something Joe hates to do and I love to do. Anyhow...

We started out at Ikea today. Oh how I love Ikea. I never understood the hype before but I have ours figured out. I know exactly where everything is, all the shortcuts, etc. I needed a scrapbooking desk and a chair for Joey and a chair for me.

After our lovely Ikea trip, we headed out to Best Buy to buy a monitor for Joey's pc. I formatted the old pc my mother had given to us and set it up for Joey. Joey absolutely loves going to ebay to search for either 'Polar Express trains', 'Thomas wooden trains' or 'Geotrax'. I have shortcuts setup for these ebay searches right on his desktop. He knows how to open them up, to click on the photos and backspace to go back to the ebay page listing. So he now has a monitor and a cool lime green chair, I have my work setup and we have my home pc setup. How cool is that?

Then we went to Lowe's to get the kids sand for their sandbox. Once we got home Joey bugged Joe over and over until he got down the sandbox and put the sand in it. He played in it a good hour before coming in and then taking a nap.

Justin when he got up went right downstairs, eyed the new sandbox and stood up on the ledge to the window whining to go outside. He was happier than anything being in the sandbox. It was a cool 60 degrees so we had on jackets. The kids are so happy with a sandbox. Joey loves playing with his tractors and Justin just likes throwing the sand OUT of the sandbox. We are working on that....

I figured if I put him IN the sandbox he would throw less sand out. It worked for about 5 minutes and then he started throwing sand out - again.

Birds and dogs....

So you may have read that I love watching birds. Here's a frequent comer to my new bird feeder. I believe this is a purple finch (please correct me if I'm wrong!). He's so pretty. The mourning doves still come as well. It's so nice to see birds. We don't get a lot since it's pretty open with the golf course right behind the house. I can't imagine the types of birds the people see that live on the greenbelt nearby. I was told by a woman they have snakes too - ick!

Justin was signing more. He wanted me to go get the finger paints. I got playdoh instead and rolled it into balls and he would throw them in the yard and go get them. Like I said, the boy loves to be outside. It did help that it was like 66 today.

These are the neighbors dogs. They look mean but they are big babies. Dana who lives next door introduced us and now we see them every day. The one on the left loves to play catch and the one on the right loves to give wet slimy kisses!

Justin sometimes throws the ball for the dog. The one in the back normally comes up and licks him. The dogs really like Justin and I because we are normally outside!

Joey yesterday and today has acted so off. Today he complained he had a tummy ache. Last night he was up all night every 5 minutes between like 9 and midnight. Finally he said he had a tummy ache and I gave him medicine. Well we found out why. The kid finally went to the bathroom and felt lots better. I won't go into details but that is why his poor tummy hurt. Other moms out there would understand! :)

He's been really whiny lately and talks back. We've had to do a lot of time outs. I'm not sure if it's a 4 year old thing or not. He doesn't want to do his chores and everything is a battle. Augh!

He's also has been giving me a really hard time about school. He hates going in the morning and says the kids hit him. I've talked to the teachers about it and they seemed concerned but Joey won't say who it is. Either way I pulled him out of daycare on Friday. I felt really bad but he hated it and I didn't want him not wanting to go.

We toured another facility on Friday. It wasn't all that great.

The one I want to get him into has a waiting list for both Justin and Joey's age until the fall!

So we heard of another good one in the area that has openings but they can't give us a tour until Wednesday, so we have one scheduled. Finding a good daycare SUCKS! You feel like you want to give your child the best but believe that if you screw up and find something that is awful, it will scar them for life. It's so stressful.

Joe and I have been grocery shopping quite a bit lately. We go with a list and normally stick to it too! We even buy two weeks of groceries for dinners and we still go. Joe and I were both wondering why we go so often, and then it hit us - we are normally at grandma's house on the weekends when we lived in Michigan. Now we aren't so that is where the extra food expense is coming from. LOL.

I'm always looking for great ways to keep the boys occupied (and out of trouble!). I bought non-staining finger paints and let them paint outside. Joey loved it. Justin did NOT. He's like his momma. He does NOT like stuff on his fingers. He's so much like me it's scary!

I wanted a photo of Joey. He wedged himself into the small space in the corner by the fish tank and smiled. Goofball!

MY FIRST BIRD!!! and beautiful red roses...

The first thing I wanted to do when I moved to Texas is feed the birds. I had the hardest time finding a bird feeder and then I found one at Lowe's. I hung it and no birds came, even after a week, I moved, it and tried again. Nothing. Ok, so I tried one more time and the first birds I had were two mourning doves.

Now I have this bird. Yay, I was so happy to see A bird at the feed. I had to take a photo. I was jumping around the dining room. I'm sure the kids thought their mom needed to be admitted to the looney bin! :)

Joe came home Friday with TWO dozen roses for me. He NEVER buys me flowers. I was sooo happy! I took the flowers and put them in the vase on my kitchen table. It looks so beautiful there too. The funny thing is the cats normally always bother plants in the house and haven't even touched these! Awwww - so nice.

I went to Target, bought some stone, put it in my IKEA vase and then added some bamboo in the back (or reeds or whatever it is) and a purple orchid. That is what I have on this table in our entry right now. It still seems empty, but not AS empty!

Hand Foot Mouth Disease - Again!

I think he got another case of the Hand Foot Mouth disease at the drop in daycare. It's very rare to see it now. It's usually seen in late summer into late fall. I thought he had chicken pox because he has bumps everywhere. The doctor said it's going around which is weird since it's off season. She's had about 6 cases in the past few weeks. Poor kiddo. He has bumps around his mouth, IN his mouth, blisters on his hand, on his feet and on his butt. He even had a few on his arms and legs. He didn't want to eat for about 3 days which is NOT like him. He also had a fever before it all started. Poor kid. He's had this more than once. His brother has had it numerous times too.

There is nothing that your doctor can do, except if they have really really bad sores in their mouth, they can give you a maalox, benedryl, lidocaine rinse to help numb the mouth. The best thing you can do is to give them motrin every 6 hours for the pain. That seems to help them feel so yucky!

We had a knock on our door and our neighbor Trish brought us these! We had never met her and these were her 'welcome neighbor' treats! What a sweetie!! She brought her two kids Davis and Derek with her. Aren't these the cutest ever?

What is going on here??

I'm trying to find things that keep Justin occupied. He is not your normal kid. Joey at this age was all about trucks and trains and kept himself occupied for hours playing.

Not Justin.

He doesn't like toys. He doesn't care for TV. He honestly likes to help me clean. He likes to get into everything he is not supposed to. He's a master toilet paper un-roller. He loves to make a mess. Give him a crayon and when you aren't looking he likes to draw on the tile and even on the wall. He likes to bang things. It's just so different I have no clue how to occupy him.

I do find he likes to go outside. He loves to read (but not as much as he used to). I'm so glad it's warmer in Texas. He loves to be outside most of the time. He likes to dig. He likes to go bike riding with me. He enjoys walks. He loves dogs (the neighbors). He likes to play with playdoh but mostly wants me to roll it into balls and throw them. He does like to play catch with a ball. It's hard to keep him occupied!

I'm also having quite a time with him hitting Joey. Now I thought for SURE that Joey would be bothering the heck out of Justin. Not so, Justin pulls his own, that is for sure.

Suggestions are great! He does like to color but I'm hesitant now that he likes to draw on the wall. Maybe I should get him those special markers that only work on the special paper. hmmm.

The painters were out today finishing up the painting. They did not have scaffolding. He actually climbed this ladder. I could not believe it.

Here they are again. That's just so crazy. I heard them talking another language and I asked them what language. It was polish. I couldn't believe it. I told him my dad's family is 100% polish and started to tell them words I knew and foods I liked to eat :) They were nice guys.

My obsession with the garbage truck.

Garbage pickup in Michigan was boring. You put out your cans and someone comes and picks everything up manually.

In Texas where I live we have special bins. You can put anything in these bins. The blue is for recycles and the green is slightly bigger and is for garbage. You put them at the curb with the handle pointing away from the curb. The garbage truck comes and this metal claw grabs the can, hoists it up in the air and dumps it into the top of the truck.

What I love about this is I really no longer have to bag big stuff. For instance we just threw out something quite large, we just threw it into the can.

When I empty the vacuum container, I just empty it right into the can instead of into a garbage can into my house which stirs dust into the air.

So Monday is my garbage day and I just love watching the trucks pull up to the house. My office desk is pointed to the street so I can see the road. This is my current obsession... I also think it has something to do with the fact that I hate clutter and watching the garbage be rid from my home is almost 'cleansing'. Yeah, I'm weird I know! :)

My short update...

Not much going on here. Justin has Hand Foot Mouth disease - again. I swear my children have gotten this more times than anyone else's kids I've ever met! This time it's so bad I thought it was chicken pox. He has sores in his mouth, on his face, on his hands, feet and all over his body and butt even!

I have photos but no time to upload. I've been working nearly every evening this week trying to do some work catchup so I've been extremely busy at home.

Oh I'm soooo excited! Joe finally painted my scrapbook room! Yippee!!! I picked a pink, purple and a green, though it looks blue below. I'm so excited. Yes it's very bright but it picks me up and makes me feel creative! Now I just need to go shopping tomorrow for my scrapbook organizers and desk!

Our Severe Weather!

We have had reports to watch out for severe weather. The weather started at almost midnight and we had some lightening. We usually have a lot of lightening here but not usually paired with thunder. A few times in the night and lightening and thunder was pretty severe, and we found Joey in bed with us.

In the morning near 7am we heard a ROARING outside. The windows and roof was being pelted by huge hail. I ran to the window (I know, not the smartest thing but I really wanted to see) and there was hail everywhere.

In fact, our little town of McKinney, Tx made the news on the weather channel! I went outside after the rain let up and got these photos. It's pretty cool! Good thing we have the cars parked in the garage!

It's been a busy week!

This week was really really busy. We had the brick guy come back this week and fix the hole in the bricks outside. He even replaced some cracked bricks that I did not point out to him!

The concrete guy came and fixed ALL of the corners on the slab of the house. It looks sooo much better now. I think it took him less than a 1/2 hour to do it all!

Thursday the drywall guys came and they started to patch all the cracks in the dry wall and any nail pops that were coming through the ceiling. It took them ALL day and three guys to do the family room.

Then the one gentleman came back today and finished the entire upstairs before 2pm. Wow does it look better!

Monday Timberblinds is coming to hang my shade. It was broke (see photos) and they got it fixed and they are coming to install.

Also on Monday the painter is coming to paint all the walls where the drywall was replaced. The great thing about this is the builder is picking up the bill for all of this - yay!

The bad thing was yesterday I found I have ants - again! Keep in mind my house was vacant for over a year and a half. The ants are living in the wall where the big window is in my kitchen. I already killed them and sealed one crack. Well they must have busted through another crack and got on my counter. Good thing I have NOTHING on my counters!

I asked Joe to go to the store and get ant baits. It's kinda funny - almost like watching the ant farms you all had when you were kids. They eat that bait and they go back in the nest and kill the rest of the colony.

At first I was terrified and totally grossed out by them. I HATE BUGS!! I figured this time though if they were going to die, I would have to let them eat the bait and let them take it back to their nest. I've had it out for about 24 hours now and there is hardly ANY left. Either that or it's so cold (it's 39 here which is COLD for Texas) that they aren't moving much.

Either way - the exterminator is coming tomorrow AM! He's going to re-spray in the inside and outside of the home. Hopefully they will be gone for good! I'll take ants any day over roaches (which thankfully I haven't seen!).

So that is my week.

Some other things going on this week:

I must have done something and said, "Oh boy, Joe is really going to kill me now." Joey must have really thought he was going to and remembered. Joe was sitting on the couch with Joey and Joey says to Joe, "Daddy, don't kill mommy." Joe looks bewildered and says, 'Joey, what did you say?!'. He says, "Daddy, don't kill mommy'. Joe of course, assured him he would never do that. I told Joe maybe he took it out of context when I used it in a slang kind of way. I guess I really better watch what I say, even in that regard!

Justin and I have been really flying with sign language this week. The lady at the drop in daycare was sooo excited to see a baby using sign language. He signed more milk at daycare and she was so excited to see it!

So this week we went into the garage, he turns to me and pulls his arms in and shivers and says, 'Brrrr'. LOL he signs cold. It's so cute! He uses it correctly too!

Joey got a time out at daycare this week because he threw the girl's paper, who was sitting next to him, on the floor 4 times. Finally the teacher warned him not to do it again. Next thing you know, he does it again (he always has to do it one more time after you tell him to stop doing something) and he got isolated by himself and a time out. What a stinker!

On Thursday I was supposed to take chips into Joey's daycare for their Valentine's party. We stopped at CVS in the morning before daycare and we picked up some chips. I mentioned to Joey we needed to pick up a valentine's day gift for daddy. He grabbed the spicy nacho doritos and said, "Daddy will want this for Valentine's day". See - Joe LOVES doritos more than anything. It totally cracked me up that Joey knew what Joe liked. I broke the new to him that I really meant chocolate! :) Silly kid.

Poor Justin - my accident prone kid. He was standing on his chair eating breakfast and I moved him closer to the table, he lost his balance and before I could grab him, off his tumbles, head first, onto the tile floor. He instantly cried so I knew he didn't have a concussion but I felt awful! He doesn't even have a bump but it sure made me feel bad.

You could not pay me to stand on scaffolding like this! The guy even got on the ladder at the top and it was wobbling and all! No way - not me!

Joey's first eye doctor visit.

When Joey had his 4 year old checkup at his doctor's office they do a vision test. He failed it. It's this device that they put up to the eye and it does something (who knows what) and it can tell if the child needs glasses.

Joey's read bad so they sent us to a pediatric eye doctor. Here is Joey on Wednesday during his visit.

He got to wear 3D glasses to see if he could see what was on the sheets. He tried to pick up the 3D objects!

To check to see if a child needs glasses, they put drops in their eyes that make their eyes fully dilate. I've had this done before and it isn't fun. You eye is no longer able to close it's pupil when you go by bright lights. You NEED to wear sun glasses or it hurts your eyes when you go into bright light. Here Joey is trying on the big pair of sunglasses.

The doctor checked Joey's eyes after they were dilated. He did great. He does NOT need glasses! Yay. He said that in order for the device at the doctors office to read they have to be really still, which most 4 year olds are NOT. That is why he failed. They said he has near 20/20 vision. Yay Joey!
